108 Elements of Human Mind

Kedi: Why didn’t I feel sad even after losing?

Ganesh: Because you chose to lose yourself. If you did not want to lose at any cost and still lost, then you would feel sad.

Kedi: Does that mean I have to fight another boxing match to understand the pain of losing?

Ganesh: You can experience loss even without boxing. Loss exists in every field.

Kedi: Then why did I join boxing? Why did I let myself get beaten so much?

Ganesh: You did not take up boxing to experience loss, but to understand the lifestyle and mindset of a sportsperson, which also included 64 emotions.

Kedi: I remember, when I won my first fight, you told me about the 64 emotions. I had experienced 62 of them; cruelty and detachment were the two emotions left to experience. But what is this mindset? Why don’t I remember?

Ganesh: The human mind has 108 elements. When some of these elements connect with each other, they influence a person’s intellectual and mental thinking, and provide an invisible yet real mental perspective. That perspective is called mindset.

Kedi: I did not understand anything.

Ganesh: The mind has certain elements. When they connect together, a person develops a mental way of thinking. Since each person’s mental elements connect differently, they create different mindsets.

Kedi: Still did not understand.

Ganesh: The fact that you are not able to understand quickly is also because of the mind’s elements. The component responsible for not understanding quickly has given you the mindset of not understanding quickly.

Kedi: What are the elements of the mind?

Ganesh: There are 64 emotions, 12 moods, 12 natures, 8 states, 8 willpowers, and 4 perspectives of mind—making a total of 108 elements.

Kedi: I know about emotions, but what is a mood?

Ganesh: When someone suppresses or stretches an emotion for longer than necessary, that emotion becomes a mood.

Kedi: What do you mean by suppressing or stretching an emotion?

Ganesh: When you are about to go on a picnic with your friends, and one friend calls to stop you because someone else is sponsoring the picnic and you are getting the limelight, you feel hurt. You may say you will remain neutral, but they still do not agree, and you feel sad. That two minutes of sadness is enough. But if you keep repeating your friend’s words in your mind and extend those two minutes into two hours, then that two-hour mental condition is called a mood.

Kedi: How does the mood of some of my friends change suddenly?

Ganesh: Different thoughts and memories continuously arise in the mind. When someone catches hold of one of those thoughts or memories and puts it on repeat mode, it activates a particular emotion, and that emotion keeps running continuously. That is why a mood can suddenly change even while laughing and dancing.

Kedi: What is nature?

Ganesh: When you are connected to a particular emotion and respond at that time, that response is your nature.

Kedi: What is a state?

Ganesh: When the coordination of mind and body results in physical and mental actions happening together, that condition is called a state.

Kedi: For example?

Ganesh: When you were boxing, you were experiencing emotions in your mind while physically moving your hands and legs to punch your opponent. That is the conscious state of the mind.

Kedi: What is willpower?

Ganesh: In this world, a human performs every action because of willpower. Whatever willpower exists in the mind, related actions are performed. Once willpower becomes inactive, a person cannot perform even the task in which they have mastery at any cost. But if willpower is present, a person can perform any action even for free.

Kedi: What is perspective of mind?

Ganesh: Just as we see through our eyes, we also “see” through the mind to think and understand. The angle from which the mind sees is called perspective of mind.

Kedi: Which are the four perspectives of mind?

Ganesh: Andhak, Mand, Chibit, and Sulochan are the four perspectives of mind.

Kedi: What is Andhak perspective?

Ganesh: When a person cannot see beyond their limits, it is Andhak perspective. For example, a worker may do only the assigned task, but cannot see how much profit it brings to others, what impact it has on the world, or how much harm it causes to himself. He only sees the limited task.

Kedi: What is Mand perspective?

Ganesh: When a person focuses on one subject and explores other subjects related to it, but does not even look at subjects that are unrelated to the main subject, it is Mand perspective. Most scientists have Mand perspective.

Kedi: What is Chibit perspective?

Ganesh: When a person focuses on two opposite subjects at the same time, it is Chibit perspective. Most soldiers and politicians have Chibit perspective.

Kedi: What is Sulochan perspective?

Ganesh: When a person wants to know all subjects around them, even those that have no connection to them, it is Sulochan perspective. Most journalists have Sulochan perspective.

Kedi: Which perspective do I have?

Ganesh: You have Mand perspective. That is Awhy, whenever you want to understand a subject, you keep asking questions about all related topics, but you never ask questions unrelated to the subject.

Kedi: What are the 8 types of willpower?

Ganesh: Sex, purity, love, pleasure, peace, knowledge, bliss, and liberation are the 8 types of willpower. Whatever action a human being performs, there is no reason other than these 8 willpowers behind that action.

Kedi: Most people work to earn money. There is no option of money here at all. Why is that?

Ganesh: Saying that people work to earn money is the biggest lie. People work to buy one of these 8 desires with money. And when any work directly fulfills one of these desires, then they do not even want money in return for that work.

Kedi: What kind of work can someone do because of the willpower of sex?

Ganesh: No one can know this better than you. You worked very hard. You wrote posts, created weird social media profile, blogs and website. To fulfill your sexual desire, you surfed every classified site in the whole world that was unnecessarily wasting your time. You were able to do all that only because at that time you had the willpower of sex. Today you do not have it, that is why you are not doing those tasks now.

Kedi: What is the willpower of purity?

Ganesh: Just keeping the body clean is not purity. Expressing your real thoughts and emotions is purity. Whoever searches for a platform to present their opinion, or does whatever it takes to reach a platform, does so because of the willpower of purity. The one who does not have the willpower of purity does not even have the desire to present their opinion. In a group, the one who gives the most opinions and the one who does not give even a single opinion — for both of them, the reason is the willpower of purity.

Kedi: What is the willpower of love?

Ganesh: When someone is in love, they can do anything to make their lover happy. They can travel 30 kilometers every day just to meet their love. But when love decreases, they do not even want to walk three steps to meet the same person, even if that person is present at the same place.

Kedi: What is the willpower of pleasure?

Ganesh: When someone wants pleasure, they can climb a mountain, travel a thousand kilometers on a bike, stand outside a hotel in line for 2 hours, wait 4 hours in a carnival for their ideal person.

Kedi: What is the willpower of peace?

Ganesh: When someone wants peace, people work to change jobs, work to build a house, collect money to go live in solitude for a few days. All this they are able to do because of the willpower of peace.

Kedi: What is the willpower of knowledge?

Ganesh: When a person wants to learn a subject, learn an art, do some experiments, all this happens because of the willpower of knowledge. The one who has more willpower for knowledge works to gain more knowledge. The one who has less willpower for knowledge does not want to gain any knowledge at all.

Kedi: What is the willpower of bliss?

Ganesh: When a human does some work to get something new, or to win, or to make their own people win, they are able to do that work because of the willpower of bliss.

Kedi: What is the willpower of liberation?

Ganesh: When someone works to free themselves from debt, to free themselves from negative or weak character, to go away from their family, to free themselves from some responsibility or relationships — they do all that because of the willpower of liberation. The one who does not have the willpower of liberation cannot free themselves from any bondage, no matter how trapped they are.

Kedi: What are the 8 states of the mind?

Ganesh: Void, conscious, semi-conscious, unconscious, emotion, creation, temperament, control — these are the 8 states.

Kedi: What is the void state?

Ganesh: When you are in sleep, do not see any dreams, do not experience any emotion, do not experience your own existence — then the connection that body and mind establish is called the void state.

Kedi: What is the conscious state?

Ganesh: When you think and understand before doing some work, and the mind’s thinking and the body’s action go together, that is called the conscious state.

Kedi: What is the semi-conscious state?

Ganesh: When you are sitting in the office cabin attending a meeting, and at the same time looking at your colleague and getting lost in imagination about the future, imagining the qualities of your future wife, and at the same time nodding your head to show you are present in the meeting — that is the semi-conscious state.

Kedi: What is the unconscious state?

Ganesh: When by doing some work again and again, its pattern gets hidden in the brain, then you do not need to think to do that work. The body does it automatically without thinking, and the mind’s thinking gets rest. That state is called the unconscious state. Like while riding a bike you change gears without thinking, you type without thinking, the moment you put vada pav in your mouth you start chewing without thinking.

Kedi: What is the emotion state?

Ganesh: When you experience some emotion and cry or laugh, tremble in fear or boil in anger — that state is called the emotion state.

Kedi: Why is there a difference between emotion and emotion state?

Ganesh: When the mind feels something, that is only emotion. But when the body also feels that emotion, that is emotion state.

Kedi: What is the creation state?

Ganesh: When you think something creative and also execute it through the body, that is the creation state. Like doing decoration, cooking food, making a website — at that time you are in the creation state.

Kedi: What is the temperament state?

Ganesh: When you give some reaction through the body and reveal your temperament, that is the temperament state.

Kedi: Are temperament and temperament state different?

Ganesh: When because of some action a reaction arises in the mind, that is temperament. And because of that temperament when the body reacts, that is temperament state.

Kedi: What is the control state?

Ganesh: When some emotion or desire arises in the mind, or there is a desire to react, but we stop it — that is the control state.

Kedi: Why does someone stop their emotion, desire, or reaction?

Ganesh: When you see a girl and water comes in your mouth, lust arises in your mind, and both the place and the girl are inappropriate — then you have to stop and hide the emotion. If you do not do that, you will be declared mad or a criminal. If you see chicken in your boss’s plate and, out of desire to eat it, put your hand into your boss’s plate, your boss will throw you out of the company. If after hearing a relative’s nonsense you give a wrong reaction, you will lose the relationship. That is why according to inappropriate time, place, and situation, you have to stop emotion, desire, and reaction. Mental health depends only on this one state. The one who controls this state is mentally healthy.

Kedi: Then in which state is a mentally ill person?

Ganesh: A human being who stays for too long in the semi-conscious state becomes a victim of mental illness.

Kedi: How long do I stay in the semi-conscious state?

Ganesh: You do not stay in any one state for long. The moment you see something new, curiosity awakens inside you, and my peace gets disturbed.

Kedi: What are the 12 natures of the mind?
Ganesh: Cheerful, calm, mischievous, enthusiastic, lazy, angry, arrogant, suspicious, helpless, greedy, renunciant, and compassionate—these are the 12 natures.

Kedi: What is a cheerful nature?
Ganesh: Whatever action happens, if laughter comes out as the first reaction, that is a cheerful nature.

Kedi: Everyone laughs in the world, so does everyone have a cheerful nature?
Ganesh: The world laughs only when there is a joke, but a person with a cheerful nature starts laughing even after seeing sad faces at someone’s mourning. The one who laughs in every situation and circumstance has a cheerful nature.

Kedi: What is a calm nature?
Ganesh: The one who remains calm in every situation and circumstance has a calm nature. In a cricket match, when everyone is jumping and celebrating, if someone sits quietly and enblisss the victory, his nature is calm.

Kedi: What is a mischievous nature?
Ganesh: The one who looks for an opportunity to do some mischief in every situation and circumstance has a mischievous nature. Saw a bell—rang it. Saw clothes—tore them. Saw shoes—hid them. Saw someone quiet—teased them. Saw a crowd—pushed someone. If the first reaction on seeing anything is to do mischief, that is a mischievous nature.

Kedi: What is an enthusiastic nature?
Ganesh: When, on seeing or hearing about something, an intense urge arises to experience it immediately, that is an enthusiastic nature. Whenever you used to join a job, your enthusiastic nature would arise; there was curiosity and eagerness to know and learn everything. As soon as you knew enough, the enthusiasm would change.

Kedi: Does nature change?
Ganesh: Yes, with time nature changes. When desires and emotions change, nature also changes, because nature is formed due to desires and emotions.

Kedi: What is a lazy nature?

A person who has the desire to prove himself bigger and more successful in front of everyone gives arrogance as his first reaction in front of all; that is his nature.

Kedi: Am I arrogant?
Ganesh: To have arrogance, one must first achieve something. You still cannot even repair your second-hand bike. If you want arrogance, first achieve something.

Kedi: What is a suspicious nature?
Ganesh: The one who doubts in every situation and circumstance, whose first reaction is suspicion, has a suspicious nature. A person with a suspicious nature looks at the whole world with suspicion. Ganesh: The one who is greedy in every situation and circumstance, whose first reaction is greed, has a greedy nature. A person with a greedy nature wants to gain more of everything; he even desires to obtain things that are of no use to him.

Kedi: What is a renunciant nature?
Ganesh: The one who has the desire to renounce everything, whose first reaction is renunciation, has a renunciant nature. A person with a renunciant nature ignores all such subjects on seeing them and does not desire to obtain them.

Kedi: Does a renunciant give up all his possessions?
Ganesh: No, a renunciant immediately gives up those things that are of no use to him. He keeps what is useful. Often we see 100 things, most of which are of no use to us, yet we think about them and desire to obtain them. But a person with a renunciant nature renounces such things forever in a moment.

Kedi: What is a compassionate nature?
Ganesh: The one who has the desire to help everyone, whose first reaction is compassion, has a compassionate nature. A person with a compassionate nature has helping as his first reaction.

Kedi: What are the 12 states of mind?
Ganesh: Blissful, peaceful, devotional, adulterous, grief, fearful, sad, depressed, confused, restless, deceitful, remorseful.

Kedi: What is a blissful state of mind?

Kedi: What is a fearful state of mind?
Ganesh: When someone is afraid of a particular subject and continuously keeps thinking about matters related to that fear, then they remain in a fearful state of mind.

Kedi: What is a sad state of mind?

Kedi: What are the 64 emotions of the mind?
Ganesh: You have written all 64 emotions in your mobile notepad. Check it tomorrow morning.

Kedi: But if I do not know their meanings, I will want to know the meanings too.
Ganesh: No one in the whole world may have heard about the 64 emotions. You have written them only after knowing their meanings; you just had not reflected on the other elements of the mind, which now you have also come to know. Now go to sleep, let me sleep too, it must be 1 a.m.

Kedi: Just tell me the names of the emotions, do not explain.
Ganesh: In the Muladhara chakra, lust, anger, greed, addiction, etc., four emotions are generated.

Kedi: What is the connection between the mind and the Muladhara chakra?
Ganesh: All 64 emotions are not generated in one place; rather, they arise from the seven energy chakras. The mind only experiences them. Because the mind is connected with the intellect and the body, the intellect and body experience the emotions.

Kedi: Which emotions are generated in Swadhisthana?
Ganesh: In Swadhisthana, ego, surrender, doubt, worry, fear, believe, etc., six emotions are generated.

Kedi: Which emotions are generated in Manipura?
Ganesh: In Manipura, love, jealousy, attraction, hatred, affection, enmity, attachment, renunciation, compassion, kindness, etc., ten emotions are generated.

Kedi: Which emotions are generated in Anahata?
Ganesh: In Anahata, pleasure, sorrow, happiness, sadness, laughter, pain, delight, suffering, enthusiasm, despair, hope, hopelessness, etc., twelve emotions are generated.

Kedi: Which emotions are generated in Vishuddhi?
Ganesh: In Vishuddhi, peace, unrest, restlessness, anxiety, patience, impatience, self-torment, tormenting others, astonishment, detachment, helplessness, shame, laziness, expectation, embarrassment, grief, etc., sixteen emotions are generated.

Ganesh: In the Ajna chakra, wisdom and witness-consciousness are generated.

Kedi: Which emotions are generated in Sahasrara?
Ganesh: In Sahasrara, bliss, selfishness, cruelty, forgiveness, remorse, memory, faith, devotion, entertainment, desire, curiosity, satisfaction, dissatisfaction, and wonder, etc., fourteen emotions are generated, and the illusion of two emotions—hypnosis and intoxication—is produced.

Kedi: One last question, in the 108 elements of the mind, why are all the elements connected differently in each person?
Ganesh: Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi connect the different elements of each person’s mind based on four subjects: accumulated karma, destined karma, fortune, and misfortune. Because of this, everyone’s mentality becomes different, and that same mentality motivates them to experience their accumulated karma, destined karma, fortune, and misfortune.

Kedi: So my accumulated karma, destined karma, fortune, and misfortune are responsible for my mentality?
Ganesh: Yes, but present actions also have the capacity to change it, because by changing actions, the mentality that experiences the changed fortune and misfortune also changes.

Kedi: Why does Lord Vishnu give mentality to humans?
Ganesh: Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi create the mind element from two dimensions—energy and chakras. They connect each person with different emotions, nature, and willpower, because of which everyone receives a unique mentality.
